“If there is one profound lesson that the Native American people have taught us is that all of us as human beings are a part of Nature and our species as human beings will not survive if we continue to destroy nature.”
“We cannot allow our drinking water to be poisoned so that a handful of fossil fuel companies can make even more in profits”, the former Democratic presidential candidate said.
Energy Transfer Partners CEO Kelcy Warren told employee the pipeline is almost 60 percent complete and that “concerns about the pipeline’s impact on the local water supply are unfounded”. “[The administration] asked [the construction company] to voluntarily stop the pipeline, and they don’t have to if they don’t want to”, said June Sapiel, a member of the Penobscot Nation who recently returned from a two-week stay at Standing Rock and plans to return soon. “We all have to have water to live”, supporter Kate Gibson said.
“I am calling on President Obama today to ensure that this pipeline gets a full environmental and cultural impact analysis”, he continued.
The government’s decision to block the 1,172-mile pipeline that would transfer crude from North Dakota’s Bakken region to IL was “unprecedented”, according to the head of an oil industry trade group.
“Remind them that the company fully complied with the regulatory process and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a nationwide permit and other essential permits for our work”, Warren wrote.
Members of the Ramapough Munsee Lunaape Nation and the New York-New Jersey Coalition Against Pilgrim Pipeline will stand in solidarity will gather at the nation’s sacred lands on the banks of the Ramapo River for a Water Is Life Ceremony, which will include speakers, music, and prayer.
“It’s an arbitrary act that creates that chilling effect”, Gerard said on a conference call Tuesday. “These are every day battles that we’re fighting in order to stop this pipeline”. “We fear that President Obama has now set a risky precedent where political considerations can now thwart or delay every single infrastructure project moving forward”.
“We have been planning for a long time for any actions no matter where it’s at”.
“It’s the Standing Rock Sioux’s principled and courageous efforts that galvanized the country and inspired these unity events”, said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune.
