Tottenham striker Harry Kane on thumping Stoke win: We punished them

As for witnessing a historic milestone on Harry Kane’s 50th league goal for Tottenham, Son Heung-Min was proud of his teammate.

Across his 134 appearances for the White Hart Lane outfit, the 24-year-old has scored 30 times and recorded a further 33 assists since signing from Dutch giants Ajax.

With Kane in the midst of a goal drought which is starting to resemble that of the start of last season, Pochettino was unfazed about his prospects for the rest of this one.

It said: “We are delighted to announce Christian Eriksen has signed a new contract with the club, running until 2020”.

If Spurs had ground out their first three results of the season, this was the form that made them title challengers last term. Anything less and they face being cut adrift before the title race has even started. “It is always hard and the expectation is massive but he is more mature and more experienced and I have no doubt he is going to score before long”.

The Argentine revealed that, despite the drama of Tottenham’s Deadline Day pursuit of Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle, he had few worries.

But it was 2-0 to Tottenham in the 56th minute when fine footwork and a clever pass by Eriksen set up Son to bend the ball superbly past Given. His second goal – which again owed plenty to the rejuvenated Eriksen – was right-footed this time but another brilliant first-time finish past Shay Given.

“We need to be conscious that we have a tough season ahead with the Champions League and different cups, and the Premier League is tough”.

However, Lloris is making good progress in his recovery and is hopeful that he might be fit to return either for Saturday’s league clash at home to Stoke or for Spurs’ Champions League opener against Monaco at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday next week. As a last round, “Spurs” took Liverpool.

The goals continued to flow and Alli got in on the act on 59 minutes, finishing confidently from a cross by Kyle Walker to complete an incisive counter-attack.

Cazorla held his nerve after Jose Fonte was penalised for tangling with Olivier Giroud in the box as Arsenal took all three points in a match they had appeared destined to draw. The Welshman is also facing a Football Association reprimand after he was sent to the stands in the first half – a sign that the pressure is already affecting him. There is no doubt about Christian’s quality or his skills.
