Homeless vehicle thief dies while being arrested at a McDonald’s
The Los Angeles Times reports the man jumped in the vehicle and drove off while the parking officer was writing a ticket.

A person identified as a transient allegedly hit a parking enforcement officer on the head, then stole her official vehicle, died today while being taken into custody by deputies at a McDonald’s restaurant in the Temple City area, the sheriff’s department reported.
The vehicle was discovered 5 miles away some 20 minutes later at a McDonald’s in the 6900 block of Rosemead Boulevard in San Gabriel, the spokesperson said. They say they responded with force after he lunged at one of them.
The coroner’s office said they were waiting for the investigation to conclude before they could begin an autopsy.
The suspect died while deputies were trying to detain him, Barraza said.
Deputies said the man became unresponsive after being restrained. They were unable to revive the man, and he was pronounced dead.
The injured parking enforcement officer was taken to a hospital for examination. Officials said the parking officer was injured because the suspect used some type of force before stealing her vehicle.
