Fellow Three Lions star Eric Dier, who this week signed a new contract with Spurs, added: “We’re all excited to play in the Champions League and at such a special stadium like Wembley – we want to make great memories”.

Mauricio Pochettino (Spurs): “It will be an exciting moment for us to play with Tottenham in the Champions League, a fantastic thing”.

And the 22-year-old is keen to repay the faith shown in him by the Argentinian over the next few years.

“I think we have almost sold out all the tickets for it and, with that amount of fans and the atmosphere that can create, then hopefully they will be special nights for us”.

‘The atmosphere on a European night at White Hart Lane is incredible, and I’ll still think they’ll win the group, but it’s a big loss. “That is very important for the club”, he told Sky Sports. That is a pitch that will allow them to play their natural game. It’s something we all look up to. It’s true that we can improve but it was a good score and good for confidence. “It’s a fantastic mix”.

Spurs return to the continent’s elite competition on Wednesday when they welcome Monaco to North London, though it will be at Wembley, rather than White Hart Lane, where they entertain clubs in the Champions League this term while they transform their stadium.

Spurs’ remarkable squad turnover over the past five years means that not one of the players in the squad today was involved in their last Champions League campaign.

However, Pochettino confirmed at his press conference on Tuesday that Danny Rose will once again miss out as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury that he picked up while away on global duty.

“I am convinced Falcao will get back to the level we saw him playing at Porto and Atletico Madrid”, said Jardim. They are very defensive and they play good counterattack.

“My first time I went training at Wembley, the stadium was unbelievable”.

Wanyama will be hopeful of another good display in the competition after he memorably scored for his former side Celtic against Barcelona in November 2012, when he etched his name in the history books as the first Kenyan player to score in the tournament’s history.
