Taiwan sent 13 athletes to compete in six sports – archery, athletics, judo, powerlifting, table tennis and wheelchair tennis – in this year’s Paralympic Games in Rio.

Ejike began her campaign at the Riocentro Pavillion 2 on Sunday with a successful attempt at 136.0kg, which was a new Paralympic Record (PR) and World Record (WR).

Nigeria’s Olympic team brought back just a single bronze medal from Rio-won by the men’s football team captained by Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi-in a disappointing tournament that was a marginal improvement on the London 2012 Olympics, where the country won no medals.

Much of the success has been down to dominance on the powerlifting benches.

Liu Benying also set a new world record as he grabbed gold in the 200m freestyle S2. Onye first throw of 7.83m had erased her own world record of 7.72m set at the 2015 IPC world athletics championships in Doha but the Nigerian went further to set the best record in the history of the event.

The Iranian delegation finished in 11th place in the previous edition, winning 10 gold medals, seven silvers and seven bronze medals.
