Red Sox name Dave Dombrowski president, GM Ben Cherington out
Longtime team president Larry Lucchino recently announced his plans to retire, and manager John Farrell will miss the remainder of the season while undergoing cancer treatment. One of Dombrowski’s baseball “wise men” in Detroit was Scott Reid, who worked with Dombrowski in both Florida and Detroit and was the Tigers’ vice president of player personnel. Henry, the principal owner of the Red Sox, has shown a willingness to spend big when he deems the opportunity a worthy one. Boston is counting on him to erase the memories of this lost, moribund season and get one of MLB’s most storied franchises back on track.

He was surprised. But Cherington, his authority to make baseball decisions now ceded to Dombrowski, decided he did not want to stay under reduced circumstances and is bowing out after assisting in the transition.
Dombrowski said he was eager to get a head start on building the 2016 club. Boston is a baseball city like no other and its history and traditions are unique in our game.
– His final trade as GM of the Tigers was sending Yoenis Cespedes (who he acquired from the Red Sox in the offseason for Rick Porcello) to the New York Mets. “He will be an asset clearly for the Red Sox and I wish him and I wish the Red Sox nothing but the best going forward”. We have seen Bauer struggle early with control, get out of a jam or two, then settle in and put together a nice start.
Dave Dombrowski was hired to take over baseball operations for general manager Ben Cherington.
New Tigers GM Al Avila replaced Reid with Scott Bream when Alva succeeded Dombrowski. Bauer, who lasted just 31/3 innings against the Yankees on Thursday, was gone before the end of the second on Tuesday after the Red Sox tagged him for six hits four for extra bases.
The 16 hits were the most given up by Indians pitching since July 25 against the Chicago White Sox, and they were the most hits allowed in a complete game of eight innings pitched all season (Boston was the home team, therefore did not bat in the bottom of the ninth inning).
Talent? Oh boy. The Sox are loaded with it. Young position players, emerging arms, a bumper crop in the farm system. He helped the Marlins to one World Series championship (1997), and built the 2003 Marlins team that won as well, although he had moved on to the Tigers at the time. The Red Sox are 17-35 in their last 52 during game 3 of a series and 3-7 in Kellys last 10 starts with 4 days of rest. “I don’t know what happened”.
With Cherington’s departure and the hire of Dombrowski, a new era for the Red Sox and Red Sox Nation seems to be upon us.
