Sparked by lighting July 31, the Fresno County blaze tore through timber, brush and tall grass in the Sierra National Forest, growing to almost 37 square miles. Crews worked to protect more than 300 homes from the wildfire on California’s Central Coast, as the wind-whipped blaze exploded in size Tuesday, officials said.
Fork Complex: Multiple fires totalling 32,698 acres in Trinity County south of Hayfork, 52 percent contained. Fire spokesman Bennet Milloy says the area is full of low-lying smoke and ash. The fire is burning on steep and rough terrain as seen in the video above from KFSN, and it is zero percent contained.
About 800 people remain evacuated.
At the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, CalFire Humboldt-Del Norte Unit Chief Hugh Scanlon gave a presentation on the Humboldt Lightning Fires which were nearly entirely contained at the time of the meeting.
“These oaks become so starved for moisture”, he said.
