“The gender wage gap between men and women on television is smaller than it is on film, as ensemble casts tend to negotiate their contracts together: Sofia Vergara makes the same amount as her male counterparts on Modern Family, for example, and Kaley Cuoco makes $1m per episode of The Big Bang Theory, just like Jim Parsons”.
The 15 highest-paid female TV stars earned a total of $208.5 million, which was $43.5 more than last year’s total.
Vergara and Cuoco, who stars on “The Big Bang Theory“, tied for the top spot previous year with matching $28.5 million incomes. Rounding out the top five are Mindy Kaling at No. 3 (up from No. 9 last year) with $15 million.
She was followed by Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy) and Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order SVU) who tied for fourth place, earning US$14.5 million. She was the eighth highest earner with $11m (£8.4m). She starred in the Bollywood films Bajirao Mastani and Jai Gangaajal past year, and we can’t wait to see her in 2017’s Baywatch. Long-time TV star Julia Louis-Drefyus made her debut on the list (which was launched after her days on Seinfeld) at No. 13.
It pays to be Sofia Vergara.
