EA forms EA Worldwide Studios

“An Organizational Update” doesn’t really compare with “Half-Life 3 confirmed” as a story, but buried in the changes recently announced by EA CEO Andrew Wilson are some interesting details. Samantha Ryan, who formerly ran Maxis and EA Mobile, will now report to Söderlund and also help lead Bioware alongside general manager Aaryn Flynn. Ryan will report to Patrick Soderlund, who will be leading EA Worldwide Studios.

Finally, the team behind the Frostbite game engine, which is used in many of EA’s games, including its Battlefield titles, will now be working under the company’s Technology division, lead by its CTO Ken Moss. Though how Ryan’s experience could influence future Bioware projects remains to be seen. The studios we can confirm are Bioware (Mass Effect developers), EA Mobile, and Maxis.

Through the haze of buzzwords that surround EA Worldwide, you can make out the phrase “the tenets of making great HD and mobile experiences are converging”.

Essentially it seems that EA is merging its console and mobile divisions and bringing Maxis into the mix.

The Frostbite team’s move is also part of that strategy.

According to the rep: “EA Worldwide Studios, which builds on our previous EA Studios organization, is now the group that includes all of EA’s development studios”. EA notes they are trying to maintain a cutting edge approach with games providing reliable and fun experiences, so more games will have the Frostbite engine. Our drive to power everything we do at EA with world-class technology has never been stronger.
