Nvidia has made a tiny artificial intelligence computer for powering the high definition mapping and highway automated driving of autonomous vehicles. “NVIDIA DRIVE PX 2 in the vehicle solves this challenge for our OEM and tier 1 partners, and complements our data center solution for mapping and training”. The brand has brought the Nvidia Drive PX 2, a small and energy-efficient artificial intelligence (AI) computer.

Nvidia has contributed to the world of self-driving cars by introducing new technology.

Many automakers have been trying to do that for ages and Nvidia has solved the problem for its partners, and complements its data centre solution for mapping and training. Chinese web giant Baidu will roll out the in-vehicle computer as its autonomous driving computer system.

Nvidia (NVDA) on Tuesday unveiled a palm-sized AI computer to be used by China internet giant Baidu’s (BIDU) self-driving cars.

The Drive PX 2 platform includes AutoCruise technology for highway automated driving and HD mapping while consuming just 10 watts of power.

So the new NVIDIA DRIVE PX 2 for AutoCruise is practically a smaller DRIVE PX 2 with only one processor instead of the usual two. The same NVIDIA DriveWorks algorithms, libraries and tools that run in the data center also run in the auto. “NVIDIA DRIVE PX 2 in the auto solves this challenge for our OEM and tier 1 partners, and complements our data center solution for mapping and training”. The dual-processor version and DriveWorks software are available now. Drive PX 2 systems can fuse data from multiple cameras, as well as lidar, radar, and ultrasonic sensors. It supports automotive inputs/outputs, including ethernet, CAN and Flexray.

To put its power in context, there is the stated capability of the AI’s single processor to combine incoming data inputs so that the computer could make sense of the complex picture and condition surrounding the vehicle and make decisions such as how it can plan a safe path forward.
