Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV Spotted in Assembly Plant
First spotted by MotoriOnline and preserved by Carscoops (Alfa has since removed the video), the video shows a lightly disguised Stelvio rolling along the factory in Cassino, Italy. The film briefly revealed the Stelvio, the company’s long-awaited entry into the booming crossover segment. Alfa’s distinctive scudetto grille is just visible, and the headlights are similarly shaped to the Giulia’s units. That means the 2.0-litre petrol, 2.2-litre diesel, and hopefully – if Alfa is serious about giving the Porsche Macan a bloody nose – the 2.9-litre V6. Most of the clip showcases how the Italians build their latest and greatest sedan, but along the way there’s also an “accidental” leak of what appears to be a near-production prototype of Alfa’s first-ever SUV, dubbed the Stelvio.

This isn’t all that surprising, as although there isn’t much known about the Alfa crossover yet, it’s expected to share the same platform as the Giulia is built on, along with the Giulia’s engines. An all-wheel drive system – called Q4 in Alfa-speak – will be offered at an extra cost, but it doesn’t sold like the standard Stelvio will be available with a manual transmission. In the Giulia, that powerplant offers 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque and helps push the vehicle to a Nurburgring lap record. It will join the Giulia sedan in showrooms across the USA next year, though a more specific time frame isn’t available yet.
