Adele tweeted the photo of a smiling, dressed-down Winehouse, without her trademark beehive and thick liquid eyeliner, along with the caption, “Happy Birthday Amy X”. Winehouse’s talent is not easily forgotten, and Adele brought attention to the late singer with a Twitter tribute.
On Wednesday, Adele took to Instagram to wish the late soul singer well on what would’ve been her 33rd birthday.
“If it wasn’t for Amy and (debut album) Frank, 100 percent I wouldn’t have picked up a guitar, I wouldn’t have written Daydreamer or Hometown”, she told Vice’s i-D past year (15).
At the time of her death, musicians both young and old chimed in with their sympathies over the loss of Winehouse. The fellow Brit has often cited Amy’s impact on her successful career.
“I got super emotional with the funeral footage”, she explained. “I wasn’t really that into the saved voicemails and stuff like that”. Anchored by soulful cuts strongly influenced by her love of jazz, such as “Valerie” and “Stronger Than Me”, the album introduced her as a unique talent to watch for.
R.I.P. Amy. We miss you, girl!
“I always have, I always will”.
“You Know I’m No Good”, a single in Winehouse’s Back to Black album, earned positive reactions from critics in 2007, when it was chosen as the “Single of the Week” on the USA iTunes Store, and made it onto BBC’s Radio 1’s A-list. “That I’m never going to hear her voice again, other than how I’ve heard it”.
That same month, Adele also got candid about Winehouse while chatting with Rolling Stone. “I’m really frightened of [fame]”, she admitted. “I think it’s really toxic, and I think it’s really easy to be dragged into it”. “I was f**king sad about it, but if someone showed me a picture of her looking bad, I’d look at it”, she added. Take a look at how fans remembered her on social media below.
