“I’m very proud of the men and women of the Phoenix Police Department and I’m outraged by this incident”.

“He’s a hero”, Phoenix Police Chief Joe Yahner told reporters. The third officer, 36, suffered minor injuries while struggling with the suspect.

“The officer’s first name is Jeremy”.

Representatives of Black Lives Matter-Pheonix reportedly said that Payne’s attack “doesn’t look good” for a movement increasingly associated with domestic terrorist attacks against law enforcement. The incident happened around 2:00am on Tuesday. “[The suspect] runs over us and then he still fights with us as we’re trying to take him into custody”. He reversed and backed into a parking spot. The vehicle then circled the parking lot and accelerated, as it traveled toward the three policemen.

The surveillance video speaks volumes, Yahner said.

“We are confident that this is an intentional act”, Phoenix Police chief Joseph Yahner said. “This stuff needs to stop”.

“The defendant was tased numerous times by two officers”, states the police report.

Pictures from the scene show the police vehicle, which had been parked in front of the convenience store, damaged and pushed askew from its parking space from the impact of the attacking auto. The documents also said that Payne was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

Payne, whom police said seemed impaired by drugs or alcohol, could face more charges when the results of a blood analysis come back, Sgt. Jonathan Howard said. The police officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment, as was the driver of the auto, Payne.

The third cop, identified only as a sergeant, suffered a broken leg and can be seen struggling to get to relative safety under the police SUV.

One of the officers involved in Tuesday’s attack was working his first day with a non-training squad with the department. He was taken to Baptist Hospital where he was treated and released.
