LSU has yet to decide between Harris, Etling

Frustrated fans in Death Valley, who had booed LSU’s offense on its first two possessions, were simply ready for a change.

Against Jacksonville State, Maea Teuhema replaced Boutte, but Miles did not indicate who will start this week. You see how much passion and pride they have for the program. “I just wanted to go out there and win the game for my team”. They will rally around whoever tries to be the next man up.

“Just like every game, I prepared like I was going to play”, said Etling after the win.

Etling, a transfer from Purdue, then directed three consecutive touchdown drives, including throwing a 46-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Smith. LSU is 28-4 following a loss under coach Les Miles.

“We started slow, and simply put, we felt like we needed a little pick-me-up, so we put Danny Etling in, and he scored the next 27 points”.

Etling’s performance was not entirely unblemished. Then again … if you watched the second half. Etling wasn’t incredible, finishing 6 of 14 for 100 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

NCAA rules require the field to be cleared for about 30 minutes after a almost lightning strike, followed by a 20-minuts warmup.

Since the Jacksonville State game ended, Miles has wisely hammered home the campaign plank that LSU will need Harris going forward.

Nevertheless, Miles said during his weekly press conference Monday that he wanted to speak with his team first before revealing his plan at quarterback. Fifth-year senior quarterback Bart Houston was 19-of-31 passing for 205 yards with two interceptions. “I think it’s important as a defense to make sure we start off pretty fast, kind of get a beat to what these guys are going to do against us”.

With less than a minute left in the 1st half, Jacksonville State punted the football to White, who fielded the ball at his own 40 yard line.

“It goes back to Eli’s experience”, JSU coach John Grass said. Les Miles is not the problem and he should not have been on the hot seat past year and he shouldn’t be on it after Week 1’s loss to Wisconsin. If LSU cannot recruit top caliber high school football players, then Miles should be on the hot seat.

RECORD SMASHER: Jenkins accounted for 331 yards of offense in his team’s season-opening victory over North Alabama last week, giving him 8,688 yards of total offense for his career. JSU’s Josh Barge has a catch in 40 straight games, putting him four games behind the OVC record now held by Samford’s Jeff Moore.

LSU: Barring an injury to Etling, Harris’ next snaps might come in mop-up duty.

Quarterback Tommy Woodson passed for 402 yards last week; tailback Warren Ball rushed for 110 with a TD; receiver Jerome Lane had 10 catches for 196 yards and two TD; receiver JoJo Natson had four receptions with three for touchdowns.

Jacksonville State: The Gamecocks return home play Coastal Carolina – an opponent in transition to the top tier FBS – on September 17. Fournette is expected to return for the Mississippi State game, and he teams with Guice and Darrel Williams to form an absurdly talented backfield that can win a lot of games for LSU despite the flaws in what appears to be an outdated offensive philosophy.
