The Red Sox weathered the return of Bad Clay Buchholz Sunday afternoon, scoring 11 runs to earn a huge series win. After retiring the first two batters routinely, Sanchez walked Ortiz and gave up a deep fly ball from Mookie Betts. He survived one-out singles by Kevin Pillar and Travis.

It was the first pinch-hit homer for any Blue Jay since Carrera did it last July, and Carrera wasn’t sure he’d gotten enough of it at first. He finished his 123-game regular-season career at the Rogers Centre with 41 homers, most ever by a visiting player. “And thinking, ‘We’re leaving Boston up two games.’ And then with one swing of the bat, it all changed”. And while Buchholz had quickly surrendered that lead, the Sox put up three more in the second when Sanchez walked the 7 and 8 hitters, bringing Jackie Bradley Jr.to the plate. Sanchez entered the game with the second-lowest ERA in the AL (2.92 ERA), trailing only Detroit rookie Michael Fulmer (2.76 ERA).

Andrelton Simmons, who had hit only one home run all season, hit two solo homers for the Angels. The sizzling Seattle Mariners, who have won five straight, are only 3.5 games out, as are the Houston Astros.

Bradley hit a three-run homer in the top of the second, driving in Brock Holt and Sandy Leon. The Rays made a conscious decision to increase homer power this season and, as a result, rank seventh in Major League Baseball homers with 194; the Jays are third.

Happ (18-4) allowed four hits and one walk. Holt walked with two out and took third on an errant pickoff attempt.

“Just a dramatic home run once again from David (Ortiz) against (Joaquin) Benoit that a few years ago there was another memorable one”, Farrell added, referencing Ortiz’s grand slam off Benoit to tie Game 2 of the 2013 ALCS.

Ortiz belted a changeup from Benoit and, despite Torii Hunter’s best efforts, hit a grand slam into the bullpen at Fenway. It was Upton’s 20th homer of the season.

When Erin Kerr went online to buy Boston Red Sox tickets during a family trip to MA last month, her 8-year-old daughter Ella lobbied hard for seats in the outfield. After allowing eight runs in the first four innings, the Sox had six relievers toss scoreless outings to get to their closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth inning with a three-run lead.

Colorado’s Mark Reynolds homered leading off the 10th inning to give the Rockies a 3-2 win at San Diego, salvaging a split of the four-game series. Estrada’s earned-run average for 2016 as a whole stands at a very different 3.68. He struck out Jose Bautista with some high heat for the first out, then looked like he had given up a double into the right field corner from Martin. The runner was called safe by the umpire, but the call was reversed after a video replay.

“Hopefully this is the start of something, ” said manager John Gibbons, who was thrown out of the Jays 11-8 defeat Sunday. Rick Porcello, Drew Pomeranz and David Price are Boston’s big-game pitchers, but even Price and Pomeranz have struggled at times this season.

The Blue Jays had occupied sole possession of first place in the AL East as recently as September 5 but are still two games back of Boston after the Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 12-2 on Monday. Toronto LHP Francisco Liriano (7-12, 5.27 ERA) will start Monday against Tampa Bay Rays RHP Jake Odorizzi (9-6, 3.86 ERA) at Rogers Centre with RHP R.A. Dickey being bypassed in the rotation.

“That was exciting, I guess – I don’t know that much about it”, Rory admitted while discussing Foxx, who played for the Red Sox from 1936 to 1942 (a bit before Rory’s time) and was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1951. The latest episode is below and check us out on ITUNES as well!
