Rams QB Jared Goff could be promoted in Week 2 — to backup

Last season, the Seahawks allowed only 3.6 yards per rush (tied for third-best in the NFL) and allowed the NFL’s second-fewest passing yards.

That sound you hear is the citizenry of Los Angeles rummaging through their collective pockets looking to see if anyone saved the receipt on the Rams. I love Coach (Jeff Fisher), and I think Fish gave him an A-minus or a B-minus … “I was seeing things that weren’t there. I wasn’t trusting myself and my abilities”.

With the Rams playing the opener on “Monday Night Football”, Britt and defensive end Robert Quinn raised their fists during the national anthem. Their official homecoming game against the Seattle Seahawks looms Sunday, and Keenum likely must improve sharply and quickly to persuade the Rams not to play No. 1 pick Jared Goff immediately.

Keenum went 17-for-35 with 130 yards and two interceptions in Monday night’s 28-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s defense looked as dominant as ever versus the Dolphins, and there’s no question Miami’s offense is substantially better than the Case Keenum-quarterbacked group the Rams will throw out against them this weekend. He is a victor who out-coached Jiff Fisher (two penalties versus 10) and got his players to out-play the Rams with one of the NFL’s least talented rosters.

As a result, quarterback Case Keenum and the Rams’ passing game has to be able to make a connection to loosen things up for Gurley. “We just play and try to hang on”.

Keenum believes the solution to the Rams’ problems centers on confidence – specifically his own. “To hold (Todd) Gurley, who I think is one of the top backs in the league, to under 50 yards, I think that’s a good day for us defensively”. If the Rams don’t figure out things soon, there could be another big splash in Los Angeles, and there’s a good chance this one could involve Fisher being out of a job. Everybody is going to see what they see. “Trust the guys out there”. “That will loosen it up on the outside, and we can take a couple of shots downfield and take that eighth man out of the box”.

The Rams’ comprehensive failures were undeniably worrying, particularly on offense.

Goff was inactive for the opener, and Fisher has said that he would not decide whether to make him the backup until later in the week.

“There’s a natural sense of disappointment and frustration, but you’ve got to push that out”, Fisher said Tuesday.

Fisher also was concerned by the Rams’ 10 penalties, including seven against the defense.

Perhaps the most appropriate moment Monday came when quarterback Case Keenum slowly took a knee on the final play to put a merciful end to the Rams’ terrible opener.

Britt attributed numerous Rams’ problems to opening-night jitters.

“I’m looking forward to hosting this inaugural event in Los Angeles and recruiting my teammates to join me in supporting local kids fighting serious illnesses”, said Alec Ogletree, middle linebacker, Los Angeles Rams.

“That will change this week”, receiver Kenny Britt said. “You realize it’s only the first game, and everybody is always overexcited when you come into the first game”.
