“Silver medal is a great success, I was aiming for gold”.

The ex-serviceman was supported to Paralympics victory by a partnership between military charity Help for Heroes, British Cycling, the British Paralympic Association and UK Sport.

Champions of Paralympics Games have become: Leilia Adzhametova in the women’s 100 metres run, Roman Polianskyi in rowing, Oleksii Fedyn in the 100 metres brace swimming, Denys Dubrov in the 200 metres swimming and Natalia Kosmina in table tennis.

Jayne Kavanagh, performance pathway manager at Help for Heroes, said: “To come back from London 2012 with a performance like that was incredible and just shows what hard work and dedication can achieve”. “If you know what you can do, then why worry?”

“I know what I can do, I know I can go out there and perform”.

“I’m getting better at coping though and for me the London 2017 world championships will be my London 2012 – that’ll be the real test”.

India till now won 10 medals in Paralympics – 3 Gold, 3 Silvers and 4 Bronze (Including medals won till now in current Paralympics event ), still very less recognition to these athletes, compared to athletes who are physically fit and fine. Lauritta won gold with a world record throw of 8.40 meters, more than a meter further than silver medalist Rima Abdelli of Tunisia.

“I know those were a home Games but to be on the top step, you can’t beat that feeling and that’s the first time I have done it at a Paralympic Games”.
