Bound United Airlines flight diverted to Denver due to ‘security concern’

An emergency landing was initiated as a precaution.

United Airlines Flight 1243, from Newark to San Diego, landed at about 9:30 p.m.at Denver International Airport, said Heath Montgomery, a DIA spokesman.

After the plane landed safely – and was met by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Denver Police Department – the item was deemed not a threat, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

The airline said the flight was diverted to Denver in an “abundance of caution” because of an unspecified security concern.

The plane landed safely in Denver and its passengers was evacuated while police and the FBI investigated the report, the Denver airport spokesman said.

According to flightaware.com, United 1243 is expected to land in San Diego at 1:15 a.m., PDT.

It is unclear who owned the item, but no one is in custody nor is anyone being sought for questioning.

The plane was parked in a remote area and passengers were taken to a terminal.
