PIA issues safety advisory for Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Samsung Electronics has told customers with its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone to no longer use the phone and turn it in for a new device. “All Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units – whether used or brand new – will not be accepted as PAL cargo shipment”, the flag carrier said. In a statement on its website, Samsung urges users around the world to return their Galaxy Note 7 and get a replacement.

In the USA, replacement devices will be issued to exchange program participants upon completion of the CPSC process.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued a safety guideline for airlines and aviation safety officials handling passengers who carry the Galaxy Note 7 during flights, following a global recall of the malfunctioning device.

Samsung recalled the phone last week after reports emerged of the device exploding during or after charging. Airlines across the globe asked commuters to keep their phones in checked baggage, while others banned the use of the device on flights. In addition, you can call the Samsung call center at 1-800-SAMSUNG.

The FAA has issued a warning to passengers in which it strongly advised them to not turn on or charge the phone during a flight.

The aviation regulator issued the ban following the recent incidents of the device catching fire because of a battery defect.

Samsung said USA users can exchange their phones and get a US$25 gift card.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was released on August 19 and quickly became a must buy for many people as the impressive device brought a number of improvements and received good reviews.

Samsung’s share price is now at a two-month low, whereas the Note 7 was expected to maintain momentum for the company in the latter stages of 2016. Samsung is the world’s top smartphone maker, outpacing rival Apple.
