Jets Lose to Bengals in Week 1

The New York tabloids are killing him today, and declaring him done, and while Green’s massive game in Cincinnati’s 23-22 was not all Revis’s fault-the Jets claimed beforehand they would give Revis help, yet often left him in one-on-one-when he got beat, he was beat by speed and quickness.

NY took their next two offensive possessions all the way down to the Bengals 2 and 6 yard lines, but could only come away with a pair of field goals to put them up 22-20.

Most of the time, though, Cincinnati kept them out — and it was the difference in the Bengals 23-22 victory in the season opener Sunday.

On paper, Thursday’s game against the Bills is their easiest game in a brutal stretch to start the season. In the receiving end, Sammy Watkins posted 43 yards in four catches while Charles Clay added 40 yards in two receptions. We’ve got to move forward.

It is reasonable to assume that both of these teams would rather not have a nationally-televised game to deal with following distinctly underwhelming opening-day defeats but they – and we – are stuck with it. “There’s nothing that’s going to happen on the field that we’re like ‘Oh my gosh we haven’t gone over this”.

“So everybody has moved on”. Green had one of his most sensational games as well, catching a dozen passes for 180 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown while guarded by Darrelle Revis. Despite all that, Bowles insisted he had no concerns about his secondary.

It means head coach Rex Ryan’s position is already under very serious scrutiny and a similar performance could already lead the front office at Orchard Park into having a rethink as to which direction the organisation wants to go. We went over every player. “We’ve talked about it”.

“There are small mistakes that we made here and there that cost us the game”, Williams said on the loss.

It was a bit reminiscent of Bill Belichick’s defiant “We’re on to Cincinnati” press conference in 2014 after New England’s 41-14 loss to Kansas City. After the game was over, Revis recognized that he did not get his job done.

“He’s similar to A.J.”, Bowles said.

“Most of the plays, I was right there”, Revis said.

“If I won yesterday, I’d be giving you the same answers”.

Then, there is the reality of starting 0-2 in the National Football League and trying to make the playoffs. The Bengals’ first win on the Jets’ field since 1981 – when they were playing at Shea Stadium – came down to two players in particular.

New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa (ribs) was limited in Monday’s practice. He said he’s not trying to protect his players.

While both teams are still looking for their first win, NY appears to be in a much better position heading into Thursday’s contest.

Revis shrugged off the notion that he will enter Thursday night with a chip on his shoulder. It’s nearly like the talk is (that) our backs are against the wall. “It’s an important one for us. We just didn’t get it done”. We believe in our team and think we’re a good team.

Revis had expected safety help as Green sprinted past him to the end zone for a 54-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. Brandon Marshall dropped an open catch from Fitzpatrick as a result of the time constraint and, most likely, defensive stress. “We had a couple of opportunities in the red zone that we didn’t capitalize on”. Defensively, Buffalo is allowing 13 points and 308 yards per game. They’re at Kansas City, home against Seattle, at Pittsburgh, at Arizona and then home against Baltimore.

“No, I’m fine, man”, he said.

“I’m not looking for another chance to do anything but win games”, he said.
