Yankees recall Mason Williams from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
According to WFAN’s Sweeny Murti, Aaron Judge is likely out for the rest of the season after suffering an oblique strain during the Yankees’ 3-0 win over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night. Cashman didn’t have the results, but said he didn’t expect to see Judge back before the end of the regular season.

NY general manager Brian Cashman made the announcement Wednesday.
The 77-67 Yankees are suddenly very much alive in the American League playoff hunt, sitting just two games back of the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles in the wild card standings.
This season, Judge is batting.179 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. “Part of the process was to get him up here and get the growing pains out of the way and speed up the adjustment process”. I’d be concerned more if this year he came back and those struggles continued at Triple-A. But Cashman was encouraged by what he saw from the 24-year-old outfielder. It is also worth noting that Williams was already on the Yankees’ 40-man roster prior to the Wednesday promotion.

Williams, 25, has only played 43 games this season-Rookie (1), High-A (11), Triple-A (31)-having returned in early July after recovering from shoulder surgery in August of 2015. Girardi said he’d use Williams in right field, which primarily will be occupied by Rob Refsnyder moving forward. “There’s no absolutes, but I think without question he’ll be better for the experience at the end of 2016 as he competes in 2017 with whatever we have”. Williams had a cup of coffee in the big leagues last year before a shoulder injury kept him out for almost a year.
