Borussia Monchengladbach boss Andre Schubert felt his team was overwhelmed by Manchester City as it crashed to a 4-0 Champions League defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick as coach Pep Guardiola maintained his 100 percent record at the club with a commanding 4-0 home victory against Borussia Moenchengladbach in their rearranged Champions League Group C opener.

City hardly seemed inconvenienced by the 24-hour postponement of the fixture after a torrential thunderstorm on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola has urged Manchester City fans to put aside their differences with UEFA and stop booing the Champions League anthem.

Guardiola feels it is now time to move on. I knew how hard and important this game was.

“I was not here (to see) what happened, but they can forget it”.

“We spoke to him (on the morning of the game) and he said he was ready, but I still didn’t think he’d last 90 minutes”.

“What happened in the past is the past”.

“We have to be so proud to play in this competition to play against the best teams in Europe”.

“In a few weeks the best football player ever is coming here, with Luis Suarez and Neymar and the unbelievable team of Barcelona”. You have to come here to enjoy it. “I want to convince him to help them and if it happens in that way he’s going to score a lot of goals, just like Kele (Kelechi Iheanacho) and all our strikers”.

“With what these players have done since the beginning – in our games home and away – our players deserve the standing ovation”.

“Our fans, they have to know we play for them”, said Guardiola. “It is our job”.

“Today the stadium is not completely full so the only thing we can do is play good so the people at home say wow next time I will be there”.

City fans are not short of reasons to be displeased with European football’s governing body – the recent decision to give more weight to historic performance in ranking teams is the latest addition to a sorry-looking rap sheet. In the Premier League everybody comes here but in Champions League the people don’t come and we need them.
