Kaepernick takes a knee during USA anthem

At a practice earlier this month, Kaepernick wore socks that had cartoon pigs wearing police hats on them.

Then, the head of a national police organization blasted Kaepernick on Thursday for wearing the socks. One photo from the August 10 practice session in San Francisco, which was open to the public, captures him walking onto the field with a raised fist.

Colin Kaepernick’s choice to sit during the national anthem prior to a preseason game last weekend against the Green Bay Packers sparked a passionate national discussion.

“I’ve been very blessed to be in this position and to be able to make the kind of money that I do and I have to help these people, ” said Kaepernick, whose $11.9 million salary this year has already been guaranteed.

“When there’s significant change, and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent in this country, I’ll stand”, Kaepernick said Sunday, according to ABC.

“A city like San Diego is too patriotic”, said Hunter, adding that he believes Kaepernick would be out of a job if he played for the Chargers.

The move continues his protest against what he sees as racial injustice and police brutality.

“I love America”, he said.

Colin Kaepernick has issued a statement on his controversial socks.

Though he has been battling injury this offseason, it was recently announced that Kaepernick is going to start for the 49ers’ final preseason game.

Kaepernick responded with a solid performance that should lock up his roster spot, assuming the 49ers brass isn’t dismayed and remains neutral toward the national anthem protest, as it stated last Friday.

The Marine Band San Diego will perform pregame along with the Frog X parachute team, featuring retired Navy SEALs who will float down into Qualcomm Stadium.

If the socks aren’t a dead giveaway that the San Francisco QB isn’t a fan of the police, his quote after refusing to stand for the anthem certainly is. Some members of the military are using the hashtag #VeteransForKaepernick on social media to show their support for the quarterback’s right to protest.

He said kneeling rather than sitting was a gesture of respect for servicemen during the Chargers’ 28th annual Salute to the Military game. Numerous fans were of color, just like the biracial 49ers quarterback who led them to Super Bowl XLVII in the 2012 season.

While negative reaction to the quarterback has been strong, Kaepernick also has been widely praised for his commitment to his stance.

He has been wearing the socks since August 10th
