Agent Carter Star Hayley Atwell Wants to Be the Next Doctor Who
The last ten years have been rife with debate over whether Doctor Who should break with tradition and cast a woman in the lead role.

And now Atwell has charmed the internet all over again with her declaration that were she to play any character on Doctor Who, she’d want to be the Doctor. After all, the creative team has mostly stuck to the party line that it boils down to getting the right person for the role, regardless of their gender.
Even though she referred to The Doctor as Doctor Who – a mistake that few won’t instantly forgive her for – following this declaration, fans soon started to voice their universal support for Atwell.
Agent Peggy Carter debuted in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, which also featured a cameo from Jenna Coleman. Or perhaps let the moniker of The Doctor fall to a female Timelord who takes up his mantle and shares his memories and consciousness the same way Donna Noble briefly did?
When asked if she’s like to be on “Doctor Who” she replied, “I’d like to BE Doctor Who.”
While we could get behind Atwell taking up residence in a certain time-traveling police box, it could be a while before she, or any other woman, gets a turn. And when she was asked by a Twitter follower if she’d ever consider guest-starring on the show, the British actress gave a pretty awesome response.
“Well, I think my opinion is fairly obvious from the show, isn’t it”, he said at San Diego Comic Con in July. And already we have to wonder what the future holds for The Doctor.
