Tierne Ewing, 48, was abducted from a home in West Finley Township by Kevin Ewing at about 12:30 a.m., authorities said, and the auto they’d been in was found abandoned near a wooded area eight hours after that. Kevin Ewing allegedly kidnapped Tierne on Tuesday and she was found dead after a daylong manhunt.
Kevin Lee Ewing leaves with one of his attorneys after a July 26 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller on charges including kidnapping and aggravated assault of his wife, Tierne. The pair were discovered by state police in a barn in West Finley, Washington County, Pa., several miles from where the woman was abducted at gunpoint earlier Tuesday.
Kevin Ewing had previously been arrested for holding his wife hostage for nearly two weeks starting in late June. Authorities said the home belongs to Kevin Ewing’s parents and that Tierne Ewing had been staying with them. In the name of Tierne Ewing.
Police have revealed few details about why the alleged abduction occurred, but online court records show an arrest warrant was issued for Kevin Ewing on kidnapping, terroristic threats, weapons charges and other crimes.
State police are searching for a man charged with kidnapping his wife at gunpoint and threatening to harm her.
Ewing unexpectedly posted $100,000 bond on July 11, so a prosecutor asked a judge to put him back in jail citing an unspecified history of domestic abuse and past injuries to his wife, Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone said.
Riggle told police that at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, she could hear arguing and noises coming from the downstairs area of her home.
Tierne Ewing told investigators that Kevin allegedly pistol-whipped her, spit on her, tied her hands, branded her with a metal hot dog stick and locked her in a closet.
She also had staples closing a cut on her head a home remedy, not hospital-administered that she told police was caused when her husband hit her with a wooden gun stock. Ewing held his wife for almost a day this second time, before he took her life in a barn in West Finley Township, which is located in Washington County.
She escaped when her husband forced her into a credit union to withdraw money, only to tell tellers of her ordeal and they called police.
Police say the Ewings may be traveling in a silver Honda sedan but did not know in which direction the two were heading. The mother, Rose Riggle, told police that her daughter-in-law had been visiting him at her house for weeks.
Tierne’s father, Richard Kopko, told reporters his daughter was “scared to death” of her husband.
