Morell’s comments come the day after The Washington Post published a letter to Trump from Morell and Mike Vickers, the former undersecretary of Defense for intelligence, that was critical of Trump’s comments about Putin.

“Any time anyone states says that generals are rubbish or an individual is not a hero because he or she was captured I find it appalling”, Cooke said in a statement, referring to Trump saying Sen.

“She is being so protected”, Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, said to a crowd of more than 10,000 at an evening rally here.

The segment, aired on Thursday evening, showed Mr Trump criticising USA policy, particularly the decisions first to invade Iraq and then, under Barack Obama, to get out of the conflict, in his eyes too hastily. “Maybe the Democrats are putting that out – who knows”, Trump told King. See their reactions below.

Clinton said she never thought it would be easy, adding if she were to over-generalize, she would put Trump supporters in two big baskets.

Meanwhile in New York, Clinton met with national security and foreign policy experts who are supporting her campaign to discuss terrorism.

Trump’s remarks seemed to play off a line he used during the primary race, in which he said that his supporters were so devoted to him that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in New York City and not lose any of them. “And it’s a war that, when we got out, we got out the wrong way”.

Trump, speaking on Friday at the conservative Value Voters summit in Washington, painted Clinton as a “massive failure” while she was America’s top diplomat from 2009 to early 2013, blaming her for the turmoil in the Middle East.

Trump has on several occasions praised Putin as a great leader, despite his support of the Assad regime in Syria, his illegal annexation of Crimea, and his incursion into Ukraine.

But much of the 20-minute, measured interview with news anchor Yonit Levi was a searing denunciation of Trump and the divisive campaign Clinton said he is waging.

Trump stated of Putin that, “Certainly in that system, he’s been a leader, far more than our president has been”.

“She is the corrupt establishment”, Trump said. Pence called it “inarguable” that Putin is a stronger leader than the USA president. “Vladimir Putin is violating the sovereignty of neighboring countries”, Ryan said at his weekly news conference.

Trump also addressed the pulling out of US troops from Iraq in 2013.
