Delhi Chikungunya: Toll touches 10
When 5 people died and 2,000 cases of chikungunya were reported in just two days in Delhi, the blame game is going viral with the CM saying that he can not even buy a pen with Rs.10 without the consent of the Lieutenant Governor is an ultimate show-down between the de jure and de facto powers.

AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey also made a similar appeal, saying everyone, including the elected representatives of BJP and AAP, should work together to combat chikungunya.
The fever usually lasts two to seven days, while accompanying joint pains typically last weeks or months but sometimes years.
Municipal Corporation data said the number of dengue, chikungunya and malaria infections stands at 1,158, 1,057 and 21 respectively. The capital has reported more than 1,000 cases of the disease this year.
“I talked to Satyendra Jain as well”.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, who today reviewed the steps taken for prevention of vector-borne diseases and preparedness for treating people affected by it, expressed disappointment over fogging drives carried out by the BJP-controlled civic bodies and directed them to do it effectively across the city.
Even as the deaths due to chikungunya outbreak climbed to 10 in the national capital, Delhi government and the municipal corporations swung into action after receiving flak for sleeping over the dreaded epidemic.
At least 1,158 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital with almost 390 of them being recorded in the first 10 days of September, the month in which the vector- borne disease begins to peak. The AAP government did not face the situation well and have since come under fire.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that no complaints of shortage of medicine or doctors and testing facilities have been reported, adding that the Centre is fully prepared to tackle the crisis. The Centre has also stepped up its information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns to enhance the level of awareness regarding the promotive and treatment protocols of dengue and chikungunya. “There is a need to take symptomatic treatment and increase liquid intake”.
The reference was to a Delhi High Court decision of August 4 which ruled that the Lt Governor would be in-charge of administrative affairs in Delhi and not the elected government. The state government is ready to provide help at all cost. “He said they have all resources and are working according to the guidelines of central government”, said Nadda.
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken slammed Kejriwal and Jung for “passing the buck”.
Kejriwal’s ill-timed tweet has evoked anger on social media.

All the Mayors and MPs in Delhi are also from the Bharatiya Janata Party. There are five ministers left in the Kejriwal cabinet after Sandeep Kumar’s removal. Jung, too, is in the United States at the moment. There is no dearth of beds in Delhi government’s hospital, he added.
