Late Pedro goal in extra time wins Super Cup for Barcelona

Barcelona director Robert Fernandez admitted prior to kickoff that the showcase in Tbilisi could be Pedro’s last match for the club, and revealed that the forward has requested to leave the Camp Nou.

Pedro came off the bench in extra time to score the victor for Barca in their UEFA Super Cup triumph over Sevilla on Tuesday, with the 28-year-old following up Messi’s shot in the 115th minute to clinch a 5-4 victory.

Enrique was equally elusive on Pedro’s future and insisted his decision to leave him on the bench was down to fitness issues.

Asked if he wanted to go or not, he told AS: “The answer is no. But it’s complicated for many things”.

Speaking to the press after the game he said, “I am happy about winning another trophy”. It is not a money question, but a continuity question.

“The truth is that I had a good chance to play“. I was disappointed to not start in this game but as I’m a professional, I went out and helped the team.

Spain global Pedro has scored 99 goals in 319 games for Barcelona, and has won five La Liga titles with the club.

“Do I want to leave?” The comments of Robert Fernandez are unfair. We made a great effort and we’re very satisfied. I spoke with the captains, the president, the coach… just a few seconds with him. “It is my job to pick the team and that is what I did”, added Luis Enrique. “Luis Enrique preferred other players and I have been waiting a lot of time”, Pedro was quoted as saying by goal.com on Tuesday. “I am grateful for all of the experiences I have had at the club and for the fans”, he concluded.

“When you’re leading 4-1, the opponent has nothing to lose”.

“I don’t think that we got the reward we deserved from the game”.

“He didn’t train for a couple of days because of thigh trouble but I know he’s in a hard situation“.

“I understand why you’re interested in this matter but I’m not going to say any more about it”.
