Reuters witness: Explosion heard in Cairo

The blast took place amid a wave of attacks and killings this summer, including the assassination of Egypt’s attorney general by a vehicle bomb in Cairo.

Citing a security source, state television reports that three bombs struck the National Security building and that there have been casualties.

“The auto exploded wounding six policemen”.

Security officials said the attack partially destroyed the police building.

A new anti-terrorism law was finalised this month.

Local Egyptian newspaper Youm al-Sabea also reported that the explosion was heard in Cairo and Giza and that it orignated from the residential Cairo neighborhood of Dokki.

Militants based in the Sinai who support the Islamic State group that controls parts of Iraq and Syria have previously claimed responsibility for attacks on security forces.

Hundreds more have been sentenced to death after speedy trials, denounced by the United Nations as “unprecedented” in recent history.
