Elderly gunman shoots 3 at nursing home before killing self

A 77-year-old man living at a senior citizen apartment complex shot three people at the complex Wednesday, killing one, and then killed himself nearby as officers closed in on him, police said.

Police spokesman Dan Long said he was taken for medical treatment in an ambulance, and died.

It was not immediately clear if, or how many victims were wounded in the incident.

No motive was disclosed for the shootings. but a woman who knew Rosenberg said he had grown distant recently.

The status of the two surviving victims are unknown.

He turned the gun on himself as police officers approached, the Cheyenne Police Department posted on Facebook. Attempts to reach Rosenberg’s family weren’t successful.

What appeared to be a covered body remained at the scene after the shootings.

For reasons still unclear, Rosenberg opened fire with a.22 caliber handgun, hitting one person inside the facility and two more in the parking lot, Long said.

Police haven’t released information about what led up to the shooting.

Long described the gunman as an elderly male and says he was a resident of the complex on Cheyenne’s northeast side.

Vince DeGrazio, who lives across the street from the apartments, said he commonly hears sirens and did not pay much attention when he first heard them.
