Trump unveils plan to support working parents

Donald Trump announced several new policies in Aston, Pennsylvania on Tuesday night, and the most surprising one is probably his proposal for six weeks of paid maternity leave.

Her doctor later said she was diagnosed with pneumonia last week.

Combined with Donald’s child care reform, Ivanka believes her father’s plan is an especially big win for working women.

Trump is also expected to propose incentives for employers to provide child-care options at work.

LISA DESJARDINS: How would Trump provide that access and care? Trump’s expanded plan, outlined this week, includes the government rebates. Clinton has an advantage with female voters, while Trump leads with men. Her plan for family leave – family, not maternity – offers 12 weeks of paid leave for parents of newborn or newly adopted children, no matter what your family looks like. Although costs vary significantly depending on location and type of care, according to the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies the average cost of center-based daycare in the United States is $11,666 per year or $972 a month. “Well, I think this is a conversation starter, an out-of-the-box idea, so let’s see where it goes”, she said.

His child care plan, she further argued, “could only be the brainchild of someone living in the penthouse of Trump Tower, leaving millions of middle class and working families with no support or pennies on the dollar while carving out a regressive tax break to pay for nannies and private schools”.

Ivanka Trump, 34, told Megyn Kelly, 45, on the evening of September 13 while appearing on “The Kelly File” that the USA must “catch up with the times” and offer guaranteed paid maternity leave. Clinton has proposed a much more generous parental leave benefit – 12 weeks at two-thirds of salary, up to a cap – that would do more to make it affordable for parents to take time off after having a new child.

Under Donald’s policy, lower-income taxpayers will be eligible for spending rebates through the existing Earned Income Tax Credit.

Trump’s campaign says this will be paid for through program savings by eliminating improper payments (i.e. fraud).

The plan also creates tax-deductible Dependent Care Savings Accounts that families can use not only for child or dependent adult care but also child “enrichment”, school choice and even college tuition.

But the limited generosity of Trump’s plan blunts another criticism: He has no good plan to pay for it.

The Clinton campaign, of course, has binders full of Trump statements that demean and belittle the contributions of working mothers and women in general.

“Something’s going on, but I just hope she gets well and gets back on the trail and we’ll be seeing her at the debate”, Trump said Monday on “Fox & Friends”. While her business offers eight weeks of paid leave, officials at the Trump Organization have yet to say publicly whether it offers paid family leave and there are no official materials saying that it does.

The interview moves on from there to questions about her father’s previous inflammatory comments concerning pregnant women. What a awful irony that the people who care for our children can not afford care for their own.

During a speech Monday in Baltimore, the Republican presidential nominee said, “You can’t lead this nation if you have such a low opinion for its citizens”.

“Those in leadership must put themselves in the shoes of the laid-off factory worker, the family anxious about security or the mom struggling to afford child care”, Trump said.
