Now, he’ll be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, manager Paul Molitor told reporters after Wednesday’s game. 400 in 55 at-bats for the Red Wings and had hits in all 13 games since joining the team on August 7.

Hicks hit a grounder to third in the sixth inning and tried to beat out the throw to first, but came up lame after reaching the bag.

“Running down the line, I just felt pain”, Hicks said. Hicks was frustrated by the injury, but understood the decision to be placed on the DL. His first stay in the majors showed there’s still a learning curve as he adjusts to big league pitching, however. “We need players that can get on the field and produce right now”. He was removed for shortstop Eduardo Nunez, asEduardo Escobar moved from shortstop to left field and Eddie Rosario moved to center field.

Buxton went 7 for 37 (.189) for the Twins after being called up from Double-A Chattanooga in mid-June. Buxton, who missed roughly six weeks with a thumb sprain, struggled in his first taste of major league action earlier this season, hitting only.189/.231/.270 with five RBI in 11 games.

Buxton crashed into the outfield wall in a game Sunday and received attention from the team trainer.
