Last Monday, an armed man was shot and killed at a North Austin apartment complex after police said he refused to drop his weapon.
The property owner is suing his neighbors, who allegedly dumped a pile of manure near his property hours before a wedding was scheduled there. When officers arrived the second time, one of the officers encountered the man and tried to talk to him.
According to the Austin Police Department, someone at the Sedona Springs Apartment Complex off of MoPac Boulevard and USA 290 called police at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to report a suspicious person with a backpack walking around the parking lot.
About 20 minutes later another call in about the same man. Officers responded again and the time were able to locate the man who ran from police. Police chased the suspect and one officer used a Taser to try to subdue the suspect.
“What we can see on video is this suspect very quickly rolls over, producing a handgun, and begins to fire shots at our officers”, Manley said.
The man was eventually found in the back of the complex. None of the officers were hit by the gunfire.
But by 12:48 a.m. on Thursday, the suspect died of his injuries after arriving at the hospital.
The suspect then rolled over and began shooting at officers, according to APD officials.
The suspect has not been identified, but is described as a white man, possibly in his 30s. The officers could not find the suspect and left at 11:30 p.m.
Police are investigaitng a dashboard camera in the patrol auto, as well as cellphone video from bystanders.
