Ohio State is now a two-point favorite over head coach Bob Stoops and his Oklahoma squad according to most major sports books.

Baker Mayfield passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a half of work, and the 14th-ranked Sooners beat Louisiana-Monroe 59-17 on Saturday night in a warmup for their showdown with the Buckeyes. “I think it will be a good matchup”, Mayfield said.

“I don’t know that we had a specific number, I think it’s more a feel of when we should get him in”. He bounced back well.

“Regardless of if we won the game in Houston or not, you’ve got to make jumps if you are going to be where you want to be at the end of the season and have a chance to play in some really meaningful games”, offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley said. “Threw it really well”.

117 – Rushing yards for Joe Mixon vs. Louisiana-Monroe. Garrett Smith completed 20 of 33 passes for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mixon carried the ball five times for 39 yards on the Sooners’ first two drives.

Sooners wide receiver Mark Andrews has 10 touchdowns on just 24 career receptions. Andrews has 22 career receptions, and nine have gone for scores. Turner caught Smith’s first touchdown pass early in the third quarter, while Alec Osborne (2 catches, 40 yards) pulled down the second touchdown of the night.

Instead, freshman Austin Kendall – the only other eligible scholarship quarterback on the Sooners’ roster – played the entire second half.

“As much as anything, (it was about) keeping Baker healthy in the situation we’re in, and Austin’s a true freshman who needs to play”, Stoops said. By the time the second quarter was over, the Sooners led 42-0 and had 459 yards of total offense against just 145 for Louisiana-Monroe. Both teams scored 17 points after the break. Some of the things we didn’t do so well the week before. Today’s game has a late start time and airs on a niche TV channel as well as being available as a live stream online option. “We had good balance offensively”.

SOONER SECONDARY: Oklahoma’s secondary got shredded by Houston’s Greg Ward Jr., especially in the first half, so the Sooners plan to do some experimenting at cornerback. The Sooners didn’t score in the second half until Kendall’s touchdown pass to A.D. Miller with less than 10 minutes remaining.

ULM mustered just eight first downs through two quarters to OU’s 21 and struggled to sustain drives despite moving the ball in spurts. The Sooners got the win in front of Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook – who was on-hand wearing a customized Oklahoma jersey. Mayfield is wearing an “In Russ We Trust” tee shirt for his team’s post-game presser.

87,037 – The attendance at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday night for Oklahoma’s 2016 home opener. The south end had been partially open since the stadium opened in 1923, but an upgrade turned it into a bowl and added an 8,500 square-foot video board and luxury seating. He had one TD catch against Louisiana-Monroe.
