Donald Trump woos women voters with new plan

Gupta then transitioned into past comments by Trump’s father, specifically when the NY real estate mogul said in 2004 that pregnancy is “wonderful”, but an “inconvenience” to employers.

Ann Knauss of Madrid agreed.

During his speech, Trump said his opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, does not have a child care plan and that if she did, it would be “all talk no action”.

Trump says his goal is to help working families with a significant expense – in Texas, according to a 2013 government report, the average two-parent family spends almost 12 percent of its income on child care expenses. Trump’s child-care credit favors the wealthy, subsidizing nannies and pricey private day-care facilities while doing little for middle-class and working-poor families.

To that effect, Donald’s proposed tax deductions would help stay-at-home parents save extra money for their children through Dependent Care Savings Accounts.

Critics immediately pounced on some of the proposals as being far from adequate, especially when the plan applies to low-income families.

The Trump campaign tried to woo white suburban female voters on Tuesday by introducing a new child care policy. Such a mandate could discourage companies from hiring workers who they think might have children.

Trump: So it’s meant to benefit, whether it’s in same-sex marriages as well, to benefit the mother who has given birth to the child if they have legal married status under the tax code.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign has criticized Trump’s maternity proposal for focusing only on women and not fathers.

The third part of Trump’s proposal aims at creating incentives for employers to give child care at the workplace.

There’s also a problem of funding.Trump plans to pay for his six week maternity leave plan by ending unemployment fraud. Now, if that sounds like a Republican gimmick, that’s because it is a Republican gimmick.

Then Ivanka Trump picked it up: “There’s no policy on Hillary Clinton’s website pertaining to any of these issues, child care, eldercare, or maternity leave or paternity leave for that matter”, she said, in remarks first noted by ThinkProgress. “In business, other such expenditures are tax-deductible”, she said, regarding the proposed rebates. She told ABC News that the EITC already provides households with a 40 to 45 cent tax credit for every dollar they earn. By allowing those in poverty many more educational options than they have now. Clinton, however, has spent her life advocating for women and children, and has made these sorts of policies a centerpiece of her campaigns for years.

Maya Harris, a senior policy adviser to Clinton, described Trump’s plan as “half-baked and completely out of touch”. Clinton’s plan includes the Respect and Increased Salaries for Early Childhood Educators (RAISE) initiative, which “will fund and support states and local communities that work to increase the compensation of child care providers and early educators”.

Trump said a lot of nice things about the importance of motherhood and kindly accepted her resignation.

LISA DESJARDINS: How would Trump provide that access and care?
