Cristiano Ronaldo scores on return as Real Madrid equal club record

Having made his first appearance of 2016-17 in Saturday’s 5-2 La Liga win at home to Osasuna, Zidane said that Cristiano Ronaldo was fit and ready to face his former club Sporting, where as a teenager he spent six years before joining Manchester United in 2003.

Ronaldo has been recovering from a knee injury he suffered during the Euro 2016 Championships and has since been out of the reckoning.

Recent reports suggested Ronaldo is set to sign a contract renewal with Madrid and the 31-year-old hopes to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for the rest of his career. “We’re going to try by doing things like this”, the Real Madrid boss claimed.

“After you’ve won a title, people expect more from you”, he said.

Madrid are the most successful team in the competition’s history, winning two of the last three tournaments to secure their 10th and 11th continental titles.

“I dont see anything else in my career [except Madrid]”, Ronaldo added.

But they would find the scoresheet once more through David García, who headed home a Jamie Romero cross. “This is the biggest club in the world, so it should have the best players”.

Zidane also spoke of Benzema match, came on for Ronaldo. “To play Sporting again is a privilege for me”.

However, De Carvalho still remains hopeful that he can lure the forward, whose current deal expires in 2018, back to the Jose Alvalade stadium.

“Like everyone I enjoy seeing [Ronaldo] on the pitch, I always want him with me”, Zidane said.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Real Madrid was a triumphant one.

“He’s doing very well, I’m happy for him and he shows he wants to play in every training session”.

For how much longer can Cristiano Ronaldo have a major impact on Real Madrid? We’ve got another game on Wednesday and we’ll have to see what we do in that one. Sporting, though, have begun their own domestic season well and sit top of the table in Portugal after four wins from four, with new signings Bas Dost and Joel Campbell both scoring their first goals in the 3-0 weekend win over Moreirense.

“The truth is I started a bit warily which is normal after a serious injury, but I feel good, without pain and getting back to full fitness”.
