Red Sox hire Dave Dombrowski

According to Yahoo, the former Detroit Tigers general manger will become the team’s next president of baseball operations effective immediately. “He’ll be right there with names like Pat Gillick”.

One irony is that in 2015, Detroit is 25th in bullpen ERA, a few points lower than Boston at 26th. The team announced that they have hired Dombrowski as President of Baseball Operations in the organization. Hopefully, his shoulder is healed enough for him to finish the year uninhibited.

Meanwhile in Detroit, after Dombrowski’s firing, Al Avila has taken over general manager duties.

“We are responsible for the situation”, said David Ortiz, who had two doubles and drove in a run. “We have a history of success over the past 14 years, characterized by a certain boldness of goal. We got off to a rough start and the decision was made to dismiss Phil and I”.

“No, not at all”, Smith said. Ben Cherington could not deliver that the past two years. “I have nothing but respect for him and the job that he does”. Holt followed the crucial blow with an RBI single, increasing the Red Sox advantage to 5-0 and ending Bauer’s unpleasant evening on the mound.

Based on his track record, he will likely trade and spend in an effort to put Boston back on top.

And what is the philosophy? The Red Sox have been in dire need of pitching for quite some time now, yet they often bypassed arms for bats, lowballing some of the better starting pitchers on the market and shelling out major dollars for offense. “One attribute that John has that is as strong as any manager in the game is his ability to communicate”. “I don’t hold John Farrell in any sense responsible for our team’s performance”, Werner said after the news conference.

The long-time Tigers executive also gave a look into his team-building philosophy, but noted the biggest thing is being able to adjust on the fly.

Cherington took charge after 2011, oversaw the miracle 2013 championship and built a stacked farm system, which Dombrowski now inherits along with budding superstars Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts. It’s believed that Ilitch inexcusably fired Dombrowski over the phone.

“Roland was a tremendous mentor to Dave and I back then“, said La Russa. “We’ve got to fight through it”.

La Russa called Dombrowski “special”. Yet he just had to have Dombrowski, who is from the scouting side of baseball’s civil war.

He’s the boss. It’s his team. “There are a lot of good people here”.

Here’s what manager Terry Francona said about Bauer after Tuesday’s loss. “He’s got the best demeanor”. Only Hanley Ramirez went 0-for which, to be frank, is just kind of how the season is going for him. He doesn’t overreact, he’s not emotional.

And if he doesn’t want to tell the fans what happened, again, it’s his team. “I think he’ll do fine”. “In this ballpark what might be a double to left field can be a home run”. But it is hard to ignore that since 1992, they have had just three managers and three GMs, and they found a way to keep their Core Four and more intact (for the most part). “That’s how you win”.

Dombrowski wasn’t quite that definitive, though he said he would welcome Dipoto’s input. You might remember the final scene of “Moneyball” was an actor playing Henry trying to spend what was necessary to lure analytics cover boy Billy Beane to Boston. Some guys age better than others. How he plays in October.

Dombrowski probably will win a World Series with the Red Sox.

Despite a slew of new players and one of the highest total payrolls in baseball, the Red Sox are languishing in last place in the American League East and look certain to miss the playoffs. “I have great respect for Dave Dombrowski. “He’ll turn it around”.
