Jacked premium: Volvo V90 Cross Country revealed
The V90 Cross Country borrows running gear from the XC90 and Volvo’s global platform, and sports a T6 powertrain at launch, similar to the XC90 when it went on sale more than a year ago. Volvo engineers say its SPA allows for a wide latitude in chassis tuning, and that the Cross Country was tweaked in a number of ways to handle tougher conditions.

It’s been nearly 20 years since the first Cross Country model was introduced.
Håkan Samuelsson, President & CEO, Volvo Car Group, said: “Cross Country has become the true expression of a Volvo car in many peoples’ eyes”. As with every other Cross Country model, the V90 Cross Country won’t carry over the entire engine range of its on-road brother.
That plastic he’s talking about covers the entire lower part of the vehicle.
“Our cars are well known for their safety, strength and durability”.
Volvo has unveiled its new V90 Cross Country – an off-road estate model to sit below the XC90 SUV and rival the Audi A6 Allroad and forthcoming Mercedes E-Class “All Terrain”.
The V90 Cross Country starts at $56,295 when it goes on sale early next year.
From secret testing facilities in the frozen north of Sweden, where temperatures regularly hit -40 degrees centigrade to the searing desert heat of Arizona, where Volvo Cars performs its high temperature testing program, the V90 Cross Country has been built to last.
Developed in 1996, the first Cross Country estate combined functional flexibility and rugged capability. The Volvo V90 Cross Country brings a surprising and intriguing combination of a strong, powerful exterior and a luxurious, Scandinavian interior.
Volvo’s senior vice president of r&d, Peter Mertens, says the new auto is created to ‘perform in all sorts of road conditions – from muddy tracks and knee-deep snow to long-distance motorway driving’. “Volvo pioneered this niche and we are taking it to the next level”.
