“Our fans have to know we need them in the Champions League”. “It’s our job and we are here”.
For Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola the Champions League is the holy grail, but it appears that the club’s fans are not so taken with the competition.
“But that’s not the reason we lost to Man City tonight”.
“Obviously the Champions League is not easy, but our objective is to try to get where we got last season – the semifinal”.
The letter translated as reading: “Dear boss, unfortunately your employee (name) can not appear at work on this Thursday as he is in Manchester to fulfil an important duty to support VFL Borussia Monchengladbach in the Uefa Champions League. We are all very happy to have him”.
The Argentinian is targeting another semi-final appearance in this season’s Champions League but admits he wants to win the trophy before the end of his contract in three years time.
“With our supporters and our songs, we are stronger”.
“Today the stadium is not completely full so the only thing we can do is play good so the people at home say “wow next time I will be there”. Hopefully against Barcelona and Celtic it will happen”, he added.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola warned supporters the club can not achieve success in the Champions League unless they start fully embracing the competition. City fans have jeered the anthem since 2014 when CSKA Moscow fans were allowed to watch a game against their side despite it being supposedly being played behind closed doors in punishment for racist incidents.
They also felt harshly treated by Financial Fair Play sanctions meted out to City by European governing body UEFA the same year.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Guardiola said: “I was not here for what happened but they must forget what happened in the past”.

“I think [against Monchengladbach] we played really good, but there are other teams that are more candidates”. Guardiola said it was the team’s best overall display since he took over, with chances created easily and regularity.
