Cable continues to crumble: HBO, Cinemax coming to Sony’s PlayStation Vue service
PlayStation Vue, Sony’s TV streaming service, is finally getting HBO and Cinemax. Alternately, HBO and Cinemax are also coming to Sony’s own PlayStation Vue TV service, for an additional $15/month each. While already offering popular channels like NFL Network, USA and Showtime, the service is now offering access to HBO and Cinemax.

PS Vue will sell HBO and Cinemax for $15 each. Subscribers will also gain access to the HBO Now apps available on a wide swathe of devices.
“PlayStation has always been at the forefront of innovation and we are thrilled to build upon our partnership with them to meet the evolving demands of television audiences”, HBO business developer head Jeff Dallesandro said in a statement. The company also confirmed that HBO Now is also going to be launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in the near future. This amount has to be paid on top of the subscription charge for PS Vue. The post does say the app will be available on both PS4 and PS3 before October 2, in time for the premiere of Westworld. Users with an existing PlayStation Vue subscription can also access the service on iPad®, iPhone® and Android phones and tablets through the PlayStation Vue mobile app. Google Chromecast is also supported via compatible devices.

The slow unraveling of traditional cable bundles continues. PlayStation Vue’s base plans cost $30 to $45 per month, though you don’t need to subscribe to Vue’s core service to sign up for HBO or Cinemax.
