Iran’s Sadeghzade Wins Bronze at Paralympics Powerlifting

Rio 2016 announced during last month’s Olympic Games that ticket sales for the Paralympics were languishing at 12 per cent, prompting a desperate late push to attract interest.

Rio 2016 communications director Mario Andrada has claimed they have “no regrets” over the timing of its move to drive ticket sales for the Paralympic Games. He has also been accounted for the recent 3-0 victories of the Iranian side to that extent that he has been described as Iran’s key to the status of unbeatable. In 2012, the country ranked fifth out of the 164 countries that competed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Ukrainian athletes bagged 11 medals on the sixth day of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on September 13: five gold medals, two silver and four bronze, the press service of the Ukrainian Paralympics Committee has reported. Jhajharia, who is the first Indian to win to win two Paralympic Gold medals, competed in the event along with fellow Indians Rinku Hooda and Sundar Singh Gurjar.

According to event organizers, at least 2,347 gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded throughout the sporting competition.

Thangavelu, who hails from Tamil Nadu, became the third Indian to win a gold medal in the Paralympics after beating world champion Sam Grewe of the US in the T-42 High Jump event in Rio.

“I’ve put all my effort into athletics, trying not to feel regret for giving up on handball”, Tsuji said, her face wet with tears. “For the Palestinians, Iraqis and Syrians, the Paralympics are a real goal”, he said.

Iran’s Ali Sadeghzadeh Salmani also elevated 226 kilograms to settle for the bronze medal in the men’s minus 107-kilogram weight class.

On Wednesday, the 31-year-old sportswoman participated in P4 mixed 50-meter pistol SH1 competitions at the Olympic Shooting Center in the western Rio neighborhood of Deodoro.
