Post-game coverage of LSU’s 34-13 win over Jacksonville State
They’ve got Nick Fitzgerald, a running quarterback and throwing quarterback both, and he’s set school records against SC, 195 yards rushing and threw for 178 and two touchdowns. TE Troy Fumagalli’s 100-yard receiving game against LSU was first for a Badgers tight end since Lance Kendricks had 103 in 2010 against Austin Peay.

Miles said at halftime that Harris looked “uncomfortable”.
LSU head coach Les Miles addressed the media Monday afternoon about the team’s win over Jacksonville State and upcoming game at Tiger Stadium against Mississippi State on Saturday. “He was relaxed. He was ready to play when his name got called, and I’m proud of him for that”. “I’m happy with what we accomplished and I do believe we will get better”. As long as rules with consequences are in place, all participants should do whatever they can to try and prevent unsportsmanlike acts. Coaches are open to playing backup Danny Etling, Miles said, but “hopefully it’ll not have to be done for the necessity of victory”. He also had six touchdowns and just one interception.
Harris had started 14 consecutive games, going back to the 2015 season.
Defending a third-and-8 play with 9 minutes remaining and trailing LSU by one point in last Saturday’s season opener at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, University of Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox brought an extra man after Tigers quarterback Brandon Harris.
While Etling sparked the Tigers offense, the highlight of the game belonged to White.
Junior Jerome Lane, 6-3 and 220, led the Zips with 10 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns (30 and 17 yards).
“It was a pretty cool feeling”, he said of the first touchdown.
“We all compete. Frankly, our quarterback can play better and will play better”. To do so, the main question should be: What decision would put Fournette in the best position to succeed?
Etling’s performance was not entirely unblemished.
Etling entered with 14:44 to play in the second quarter with LSU on its 30-yard line after Jacksonville State took a 3-0 lead on a 30-yard field goal by Cade Stinnett.
NCAA rules require the field to be cleared for about 30 minutes after a almost lightning strike, followed by a 20-minuts warmup. The junior running back was sidelined for Jacksonville State (1-0) after re-injuring his ankle at the end of the Wisconsin loss.
Miles has said Fournette is not seriously injured and sounded optimistic that he’d be ready to play next weekend.
With Leonard Fournette unavailable due to injury, running back Derrius Guice carried 19 times for 155 yards including a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
With a new quarterback under the center, the Tigers scored a win.
“We would like to think that a respite from the starting quarterback and the pressures thereof might allow (Brandon) to take a deep breath and step forward and compete”, Miles said. The lapses were highlighted by a 76-yard Gamecocks touchdown, where LSU cornerback Donte Jackson and safety Jamal Adams miscommunicated on a short reception. JSU coach John Grass’ midweek analogy to sticking a hand in a hornet’s nest was not inaccurate.
However, near the end of the game, we saw a late hit that isn’t something we want to see in any game.
LSU’s special teams made the most special play of the night.

At another school, or at another time at LSU, if Etling was the regular starting quarterback, and turned in such a second half as he did Saturday, he might be benched.
