With solemn ceremonies and prayers, moments of silence and the ringing of bells, the nation on Sunday planned to mark the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 2,977 victims and forever changed how the United States views itself and its place in the world.
Fifteen years ago, the United States changed forever when four airliners crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
At the Flight 93 National Memorial in southwestern Pennsylvania, the ceremony will include music, the reading of the names of the 40 victims who died there and the ringing of bells. We miss every day.
This summer, the younger D’Amadeo worked with children affected by the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where 26 children and adults were killed in 2012.
James Johnson was there for the first time since he last worked on the rescue and recovery efforts in early 2002, when he was a New York City police officer.
