Experts Weigh In On Newly Released Health Information From Clinton, Trump

With the candidates’ health suddenly at the forefront of the campaign, Clinton looked to head off further scrutiny by releasing new medical records Wednesday indicating that she was “fit to serve” as president.

While Trump is shown to be overweight, with a body mass index of 29.5, his doctor Harold Bornstein declared the Republican nominee to be “in excellent physical health”.

This poll comes on the heels of an online-only, self-selecting poll last week from the Washington Post and Survey Monkey painted a similar picture of the presidential race in Texas, intimating a possible Clinton win in the Lone Star State.

Trump also appeared on the “Dr. Oz Show” to discuss his health in an interview with host Mehmet Oz, a surgeon.

The rally marked Mrs Clinton’s first public appearance since Sunday, when she abruptly left a 9/11 memorial service after getting dizzy and dehydrated.

News of Trump’s appearance on “The Dr. Oz Show” – though it appeared to reveal little detail – had earlier flooded the U.S. airwaves on Wednesday.

The 70-year-old weighs 236 pounds, according to his doctor. In a detailed, two-page “summary update” on Clinton’s health, her personal physician Lisa Bardack wrote that the candidate was bouncing back after a diagnosis of “mild, non-contagious” pneumonia.

Clinton was recovering from mild pneumonia and “continues to remain healthy and fit to serve as president of the United States”, the doctor, noting Clinton is in “excellent mental condition”.

“Why in the world did Hillary Clinton lie to everyone and hide such an important fact for two days, saying she was overheated and dehydrated and then, of course, hours and hours later after, unfortunately, her health became the biggest trending story of the day, not the 9/11 fallen, why wait all those hours?”

Bob Shrum, a Democratic strategist who managed 2004 candidate John Kerry’s unsuccessful campaign, said Clinton remained the favourite to win the White House, with demographic changes favouring her over Trump, who is heavily reliant on white voters.

Mrs Clinton’s confidence in the electoral map was underscored in her decision to make her first stop this week in North Carolina, the only battleground state President Barack Obama lost in 2012. Trump nearly certainly needs to carry the state in order to win the White House, while Clinton’s team is eager to block his path.

Clinton slammed North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory for signing a law to prevent transgender people from using restrooms in schools and state government buildings that do not correspond to the gender on their birth certificates.

“This is where bigotry leads, and we can’t afford it, not here or anywhere else”, Mrs Clinton said.

A New York Times/CBS News poll released today showed Mrs Clinton had the support of 46% of likely voters nationwide, with 44% backing Mr Trump.
