The attack in the northeastern city of Qamishli near the Turkish border hit the headquarters of the Asayish, an internal security force set up by the autonomous Kurdish administration that runs large areas of northern Syria. Qamishli is a Kurdish-majority city in the Hasakah province, where in recent months the YPG have achieved several military successes against ISIS, in part thanks to US-led global coalition airstrikes. “At least 14 civilians have been wounded”, Rahman said.

“There is a lot of destruction – the buildings on at least two streets have been completely destroyed”, he said.

Today, aerial bombardment by the government of a rebel stronghold east of Damascus left at least 10 people dead, the Observatory said.

Syria’s state news agency SANA reported the explosion, saying it killed 13 and wounded about 50.

Qamishli is presently under joint control of Kurdish authorities and President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces that are battling against the “Islamic State” (IS) militant group.
