Police in the Southern California city of Orange say a man and a woman have been found dead inside a home and a neighbor says the man was the father of former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon.

What led to the deaths of Bob Gordon, 68, and Sharon Gordon, 57 “had not been ruled one way or another”, Orange County Supervising Deputy Coroner Kelly Keyes told USA TODAY Sports. However, the police mentioned their investigation was focusing on a murder-suicide, and a rifle was reportedly recovered from the scene of the crime, though it is not clear if it was used in the deaths.
Police in the city about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles said the cause of the deaths had not been determined.
Robby Gordon has most recently been racing off-road in a serious he created called Speed Energy Formula Off-Road.
A longtime neighbor confirmed that the couple who lived in the home were relatives of former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon.
Gordon spoke briefly to reporters Thursday near the gated house where police discovered the bodies of 68-year-old Robert Gordon and 57-year-old Sharon Gordon. He said Robert Gordon had a horse feed business and would regularly drop hay off at neighbors’ homes.
In an official statement released Thursday, Robby Gordon thanked the racing community for its support.

According to neighbor Greg Saunders, Bob – who was an off-road racer – was a likable man. “The truth will com out, what went down here”. “Thinking of the Gordon family and friends”, NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson said on Twitter.
Gordon, 47, has raced on numerous racing circuits, from NASCAR to IndyCar to Champ Car and IROC. The driver was also known for making 396 NASCAR Premier Series starts for 19 seasons. His wife, Sharon, was the stepmother of the NASCAR driver.

NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was among those offering condolences, writing on his Twitter account he is praying for “the Gordon family during this hard time”. Outside of racing NASCAR, Robby Gordon is also an off-road racer and owner in the Stadium Super Trucks series, which is scheduled to be held this weekend in Costa Mesa.
