The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office said Brackeen died after suffering a “lethal gunshot wound to the chest”. Philbin said they should be here late Wednesday afternoon.
Shelby officer dies from injuries after being shotShelby Police Officer Tim Brackeen, 38, died Monday from his injuries after he was shot while serving a warrant in Shelby early Saturday morning on a Grover man, 23-year-old Irving Lucien Fenner Jr.
“It’s been a long period of time where the detectives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents all cultivating information, pretty good police work tracking him here”.
Police surrounded a Coventry, Rhode Island, home where Irving Fenner, 23, surrendered peacefully around 2:30 a.m., Maj.
Fenner was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound that authorities say apparently happened in North Carolina.
It’s unclear how authorities came to believe Fenner is now in Rhode Island. The house is believed to be Fenner’s half sister’s, police said.
State Police Major Joseph Philbin said he called the Shelby, N.C. police department in the middle of the night to tell them they had captured Fenner. His half-sister was reportedly taken into custody, investigators said.
According to WPRI, Irving Fenner was apprehended in Providence, RI, early this morning.
According to court records, three days after the alleged home invasion in March, Fenner was arrested for possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed gun. Police said he had tried to elude capture by altering his appearance. Fenner’s uncle Corry Peeler and his girlfriend Hope Wyman were charged with harboring a criminal. She also is wanted on a warrant out of North Carolina, Philbin said.
Hamrick is now being held on a $100,000 bond.
Fenner is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday evening at state police headquarters on charges of first-degree murder and being a fugitive from justice. Police said she aided Fenner while he was wanted on the outstanding warrants. He said he didn’t turn him because he was scared of him. Spectators lined the streets leading to the funeral home. Brackeen was married with a daughter, Eyewitness News has learned. The funeral service will take place at Shelby High School. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

On Tuesday, a processional for the body of a fallen Shelby Police officer shut down I-85 and brought hundreds to show support. A GoFundMe page has been created to help the Brackeen family pay for emergency expenses.
