South Korea ready to raze Pyongyang in case of nuke attack: Yonhap

The warning of additional test is based on three tunnels excavated at Punggye-ri near which all of its underground nuclear tests were conducted.

After the test, the North’s nuclear weapons institute said it will take unspecified measures to further boost its nuclear capability, which analysts said hinted at a possible sixth nuclear test.

On Friday, North Korea reported a major advance in its efforts.

Should Washington launch a war against it, Pyongyang would “blow up the land of America and thus finally root out the source of war on the earth”, it said.

The state-run news agency, KCNA, said a North Korean foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement Sunday that Obama’s threats meant nothing.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, formerly the country’s chief nuclear negotiator, arrived in Beijing on Monday and was seen entering the country’s embassy, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported. “We will continue to sharpen financial tools as we can”, he said, while adding that China’s participation was very important.

A defiant North Korea on Sunday restated its demand for recognition as a “legitimate” nuclear-armed state, as world powers pondered ways to punish Pyongyang for its latest and largest atomic test. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the level of threat has changed, and that Tokyo is considering unilateral sanctions against Pyongyang.

The United Nations Security Council denounced the test, saying it was a flagrant violation of sanctions imposed during the past decade in response to North Korea’s nuclear activity.

But North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un remains defiant in pursuing a nuclear programme.

According to the BBC, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on the members to remain united in thwarting North Korea’s nuclear expansion.

It has also suggested the USA is becoming “exasperated by the strong military steps being taken by the DPRK”.

‘We will be working very closely in the security council and beyond to come up with the strongest possible measure against North Korea’s latest actions, ‘ said United States envoy Kim on Sunday. Russian Federation and China are the other veto powers on the Security Council.

Experts say Seoul badly needs to build its own strategic nuclear armament if US fighters and bombers are affected by weather conditions.

Although, North Korea has already responded by saying the thought of receiving another sanction is “laughable”.

Pyongyang’s assertions that it is able to miniaturize a nuclear warhead have never been independently verified.

Xinhua News Agency, China’s official press, reported that Beijing expressed “firm opposition” to the nuclear test and that it will, along with the worldwide community, keep working toward the goal of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and commit to settling problems through the six-party talks.
