The Red Devils had looked odds on the secure the services of Barcelona forward Pedro before the end of the window, however, the Spaniard is instead on the verge of joining Chelsea.

Manchester United have launched a surprise bid to sign Southampton winger Sadio Mane.
Louis van Gaal’s side appear to have been beaten to Pedro’s signature by rivals Chelsea, with a mixture of cold feet and lack of movement on United’s part allowing the Blues to hijack the deal. United continue to search far and wide for further reinforcements, including placing a bid for Southampton’s Mane.
They were reported to be close to a deal for the Barcelona forward last week, but the club has now pulled out of the running to sign the 28-year-old.
Mane certainly has talent but United fans may be concerned that he is yet to prove himself at the highest level.
Could Mane do a job at Old Trafford?
The 23-year-old was only snapped up by Southampton last summer, with Ronald Koeman’s men raiding Red Bull Salzburg for the former FC Metz man.

He made a decent impact in England with 10 league goals last term in 31 games including a Premier League record when he scored a hat trick against Aston Villa in just two minutes and 56 seconds in the Saints 6-1 rout last May.
