Free Twitter app will expand NFL Thursday night viewing options

While the Apple TV version of Twitter is out globally via the App Store, the Xbox One variant will only be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the U.S., and the Amazon Fire TV offering is down to just in the United Kingdom and US.

Users will now be able to stream National Football League games as well as other sporting events.

This Thursday, Twitter will be put to the test as they live stream Thursday Night Football through their app.

Users will only need the apps on their televisions to view Twitter content the likes of live streams of 10 NFL Thursday Night Football games.

The company won the rights over Verizon and Amazon.

Fortunately, Twitter has spent the past year striking deals with sports broadcasters and media companies, meaning there’s plenty here to keep cord-cutters occupied. This will include, says the company, Thursday Night Football games and livestreaming content from others like Campus Insiders, Bloomberg News, MLB Advanced Media, Pac 12 Networks, Cheddar, and the National Basketball Association.

Twitter just got more immersive into its video services by announcing a new app that will here forth offer absolutely free content for the world’s major streaming TV services.

Twitter said that Apple TV viewers specifically will be able to watch live premium video side-by-side with Tweeted video clips as part of a “seamless” video experience.

“This may reduce some friction between watching and commenting on the game, and being able to put your own spin and create your own content”, she said, speaking on a sports technology panel that I moderated at the Microsoft Envision conference in New Orleans.

In an attempt to attract more users, the microblogging site has also made a decision to stop counting photos, links from the 140-character limit of a tweet.

Quoted tweets will also no longer reduce the count of characters. The update is expected to come live on September 19.

Twitter users accessing the platform through apps can find the game through the Moments tab within the application (usually centered between Notifications and Messages). The applications will also showcase popular tweets. Please see our terms of service for more information.
